Meant for Music
Black Sheep is comprised of Jack and Colin Rooney, brothers who grew up in northern Illinois and have had a love of and inclination toward music since they were very young. Having picked up instruments even as toddlers, it was around the ages of eight and ten years old that the guys began to demonstrate an obvious knack for sounds, rhythms, riffs, and fills. They each spent a handful of years in guitar, drum, and piano lessons and, while they're both adept at several instruments, settled on their favorites and have spent a great deal of time honing those skills. Jack plays lead guitar with fervent passion and natural, finely-tuned skill, tone, and speed while Colin favors the heart-thumping beats & fills of the drums and plays with natural, uncanny rhythm, depth, and drive. Together, they have developed a sound all their own that combines the hard-driving style of 70s and 80s Rock n' Roll with the Blues. You'll hear an occasional Latin flair in some of their original songs and, now & then, they enjoy slowing things down with acoustic, dual guitar sets. As they've been laying down tracks for their debut album, they're recording all parts except vocals themselves. When they've played live, they've had the pleasure of inviting various friends and colleagues to fill in on the bass, some vocals, or rhythm guitar. Each time they pick up their instruments, their musicality conveys that they were truly meant for music.
Born of Blood, Sweat, & Tears
After years of playing music in their basement and home studio, at rock n' roll camp, at church, and local special events, the guys decided that it was time for an official band to take shape. Like many bands, the onset was slow-going between searching for band mates that fit and writing original music. It has only been through relentless, diligent rehearsal, trial and error, and heart-level devotion that they've begun to forge a name for themselves and have gotten most of their freshman album completed, but nothing worth having comes easily.
Looking Forward
While almost always taking the time to pay homage to a handful of their favorite artists & bands by covering special songs, Black Sheep is glad to be playing their original music at all upcoming venues and shows. For every true artist, representing their own passions through their work is paramount. As their debut album gets closer to rolling out, they will be playing everywhere they're able and are excited for you to hear their music and to get connected with you.
